so little money, so much to buy!

a few (when i say few, i dont really mean a few), pairs from marc by marc jacobs, and one from dries von noten.

i think ive almost come to a point where ive got enough of blisters from heels. in fact, i think im in for shoes that are not for the faint hearted. lanky heels are a work of yesterday, and today, for me at least, its chunky heels and platforms! for one, they're so much more comfortable to walk in; you can literally last at least 2 hours more on chunky heels, and even more on platforms. as ive mentioned before in one of my previous entries, im gonna start saving on clothes, and splurging on shoes! because you can never have only one pair of good shoes. and plus, shoes totally complete your outfits.

first yey!

second yey!

these are such a great pair to have. i think they'll be first on my list.

but what i reaaallyyy want is a pair of dries. how cool are these! i'll prob get either the mustard or the grey, when i actually have the money :/

ok happy weekend!

can somebody please knock me in the head. why do i still not have a new phone? im giving myself till the end of today to decide between the iphone 16GB and the samsung f700. some help please?

here's why i think i should get these,

iphone;
wireless
2gb worth of local data usage
syncs with my macbook
cheap cheap

but,

it only has a touch screen which is a problem for girls with long nails ie; me.
its not as black and bold as the f700, which means i wld only die die get the white.

samsung f700;
qwerty keyboard (very yey!)
matches my camera
my loyalty to samsung

but,

it does not have wireless, which means no more toilet chatting for me.
its much more expensive than the iphone. at least 300 more.

ok. i really have to get over this phone craze in my head by today. wait, do i really need a new phone?

baaaaah.

i woke up an hour before my usual 8am wake up call, extremely irritated that i cldnt get back to sleep. so i got up anyway and took a shower, took my time to get ready and do the necessary. did i mention how irritated i was? omg lah i was so irritated when i cldnt find anything to wear. and i got even more irritated when i forgot my pack of cigarettes. anyway, i felt better once i got to work and everything, but now im irritated again cos im in singapore, and will prob be stuck here for another 4 months. i need to get out. even if its just for a bit. i need to start working on my portfolio.

a coupl'a months back, i wrote abt the dispute i had between the samsumng omnia, and the iphone. lo and behold, im still using my samsung blackjack. my mum on the other hand, has gotten the samsung omnia, and h is gonna get the iphone. so maybe i dont really need either one as they'll be lurking around me anyway :)

i say, hello F700!

aesthetically, this one has already won me over. i absolutely love samsung for their clean lines and their very bold black. unfortunately for me, there's no built in wifi for this phone, which is a real bummer cos im quite a frequent user of that function. gprs just costs too much for checking emails in my home toilet. im still considering and keeping it as one of my options (till i get my singtel voucher), but this wifi thing is really making me quack.

the weather has been crazy with heavy rainfall and sudden sunshine. its damn hard to decide what to wear to work every morning cos you dont really wanna end up sweating while walking to work, or freezing, or whichever that unfortunately happens. anyway
we had udon at liang court for dinner. and truth be said, that was probably one of the best ones ive had, even though it was a bit pricey, at $9 per bowl.

i had the ebi tempura udon. the only bad point was that the tempura was served in the bowl itself, which ended up soggy halfway through the meal. but nonetheless, the udon itself had the perfect chewy texture, and broth was tasty enough to slurp.

nad and tini had the vegetable tempura and beef respectively. i think im gonna go back for the beef.

headed to the supermarket nearby where tini bought some snacks for us to much on. everyone knows how good the goldfish crackers are, so im not gonna mention them. but oh! you so have to try the potato sticks. these were suttle, but really really addictive. not sure if you can find them at the local ntuc, but they should be available at any japanese supermarket.

it ended up raining the whole of saturday, so tennis was called off. but i did make some darn good custard to go with my bread pudding :)

anyway heres the recipe for that dead good custard, and panettone (i used french bread) pudding.

dinner was at da paolo's pizza bar @ chip bee gardens for nad's 23rd.

for those who prefer thin crust pizzas like i do, this is the place to go. with a wide range of pizzas to chose from, youre bound to find one that will suite your palate. they serve other stuff apart from the pizzas, but nothing really worth mentioning. for da paolo's the food came as expected, good, but nothing over the top. service was crappy, but i really wasn't expecting much considering the crowd which didn't stop streaming in.

so anyway, ive decided to make bread pudding with custard cream this weekend. plus, rej and i are playing tennis tomorrow and having a stay-in lunch/dinner for nad's 23rd. so more pictures this weekend!

i bought 3 books from Boooks Actually yesterday. They aren't exactly my own great findings, but theyre recommended books which i have noted down to get.

No one belongs here more than you
by Miranda July

nat's recommendation, and by the looks of her website, it's gonna be an interesting read.

ive seem to have grown a liking for asian literature, particularly Japanese. Murakami's the first that ive read from this genre, and bit by bit, poco poco, im extending my circle.

Norwegian Wood
by Haruki Murakami
(said to be his best selling work in Japan)

Mister God, This is Anna
by Anna Fynn

another one of nat's (and alvin's) recommendation. this book apparently changed alvin's thinking about life, which for alvin, is very dramatic. i wanna see what all the hype is about.

happy weekend :)

a few things i'd like to get my hands on. just for the kicks of it!

ms diana dreamer is much prettier (and dreamy-er) than ms diana herself! i'm still looking around for another fun camera, my parents just got me the samsung nv24 hd for my bday! and it super matches my phone lah. to hell with you guys against samsumg!

i prob wont get this considering the amount i actually go swimming. but it's a fun piece to have anyway (during the once a year or so time) when i do go to the beach. minus the tits lah. ok who am i kidding. i love the tits. bring them on woman.

another pair wont kill you even though the blisters might!

now this, is actually just something i would buy for packaging's sake. actually, it would be really good if i can find a whole series of them (if cheap) for amie!

Im thinking of baking a few batches of this for the upcoming raya :)

Raspberry Hazelnut Tea Cake
by Meeta K.

200g fresh raspberries
160g all-purpose flour
170g sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
150g butter, melted
100g whole hazelnuts, dry roasted

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Prepare a 26 cm long loaf tin by brushing it with a bit of the melted butter and flouring the insides. Tap out any excess flour.

In a large mixing bowl whisk the eggs and sugar until creamy and pale.

In a separate bowl sieve the flour and baking powder together, then gently stir it into the egg mixture. Whisk only until the flour has been incorporate. Finally whisk in the melted butter.

Using a rubber spatula fold in 150g raspberries and 50g hazelnuts into the batter.

Pour a layer of the batter into the loaf tin, then layer with the remaining raspberries and hazelnuts. Pour in the rest of the batter into the tin.

Back the cake for 40-50 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.

Take cake out of oven and allow to cool for 5-10 minutes in the tin. Then tip onto a rack and cool.

Tip: If you are baking this cake only for adults drizzle some raspberry brandy onto the cake while it is still warm. ;-)

as most of you know, i have such a crazy love for eggplant that i can have it every single day, for for every single mean. this shall be on my menu the next time i have a dinner party.

Baba Ganoush (serves 8)
by David Lebovitz

3 medium-sized eggplants (about 1 1/4-pounds, 1.25kg)
1/2 cup (130g) tahini (roasted sesame paste)
1 1/4 teaspoons coarse salt
3 tablespoons freshly-squeezed lemon juice
3 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed
1/8 teaspoon chile powder
1 tablespoon olive oil
a half bunch picked flat-leaf parsley or cilantro leaves

1. Preheat the oven to 375F (190C).

2. Prick each eggplant a few times, then char the outside of the eggplants by placing them directly on the flame of a gas burner and as the skin chars, turn them until the eggplants are uniformly-charred on the outside. (If you don't have a gas stove, you can char them under the broiler. If not, skip to the next step.)

3. Place the eggplants on a baking sheet and roast in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes, until they're completely soft; you should be able to easily poke a paring knife into them and meet no resistance.

4. Remove from oven and let cool.

5. Split the eggplant and scrape out the pulp. Puree the pulp in a blender or food processor with the other ingredients until smooth.

6. Taste, and season with additional salt and lemon juice, if necessary. Chill for a few hours before serving. Serve with crackers, sliced baguette, or toasted pita chips.

Storage: Baba Ganoush can be made and refrigerated for up to five days prior to serving.
